Turan: It Will Be Hard Not Joining Barcelona Until January

Jul 8, 2015 1:05 PM

Arda Turan joined Barcelona this week and he'll have to wait until January to begin playing with the club.

Turan could be loaned to Galatasaray or Fenerbahce during the first part of the season.

“It’s going to be hard not playing for six months but the important thing is that I will play for Barça,” Turan said in an interview with Spanish radio on Tuesday.

“I will work until I am able to make my debut in January and I will help the team to win all the trophies,” he said, adding that it will be a “dream” for him to play in the same team as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andrés Iniesta.

Lukas Podolski Completes Move From Arsenal To Galatasary

Jul 4, 2015 11:39 AM

Lukas Podolski has completed a switch from Arsenal to Galatasaray on a three-year deal.

Podolski has been widely expected to leave Arsenal after returning from his half-season loan at Inter Milan.

Despite scoring just once in 18 appearances for the Serie A club, Galatasaray have moved for the 30-year-old, who has 125 international caps to his name.

Podolski joined Arsenal from Cologne in 2012 and enjoyed a fruitful first season in England, scoring 11 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

However, he has since dropped out of Arsene Wenger's first-team plans, making just 14 league starts the following campaign before last season's disappointments.

United Jumps From 4th To 2nd On World's Richest Clubs List

Jan 21, 2015 7:53 PM

Manchester United has narrowed the gap with Real Madrid financially over the past year despite their struggles in the Premier League last season.

According to this year’s Deloitte Money League, which uses publicly available accounts to rank the revenues of the biggest clubs, United jumped two places from fourth to second with revenues of £433.2 million. Their growth was partly fuelled by their commercial strategy of selling regional sponsorship categories around the world but also by the Premier League’s broadcasting deals that bring in £5.5 billion over three years.

“Despite a poor on-pitch season in 2013-14, United’s commercial strategy of securing global and regional partners is delivering substantial growth. Commercial revenue has grown 83% in the last three years,” said Austin Houlihan, a senior manager at Deloitte. “Thanks to the latest Premier League media deals, broadcast revenue also increased 34% to £135.8m. Their absence this season from European competition will be felt in next year’s Money League position, but if they can return to the Champions League in 2015-16 there is a strong possibility they could be top in two years’ time.”

Real Madrid, United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus comprise the top-10.

Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Tottenham, Schalke, Atlético Madrid, Napoli, Inter Milan, Galatasary, Newcasle and Everton are ranked 11-20.

Juventus Interested In Signing Wesley Sneijder

Jan 5, 2015 1:37 PM

Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed Juventus are interesting in signing Wesley Sneijder from Galatasaray.

“It’s not easy to reinforce Juve but we have some very clear ideas and it’s no secret that we are looking for an attacking midfielder and a defender,” the Juventus manager said.

“Sneijder has tremendous technical quality and would complete an already very strong part of the team, creating competition for places. He wouldn’t be able to play in the Champions League but we have to be realistic and see who is out there.”

Sneijeder spent three-and-a-half seasons in Serie A with Inter Milan before joining Galatasaray two seasons ago.

Didier Drogba Could Return To Chelsea On One-Year Contract

Jul 21, 2014 11:16 AM

Didier Drogba’s return to Chelsea on a one-year contract could be confirmed this week, according to reports in France.

Drogba is currently a free agent after his 18-month contract at Galatasaray came to an end at the conclusion of the Turkish Super Lig season.

Drogba has also been offered a job coaching at Chelsea after his retirement.

Drogba won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League with Chelsea, scoring 157 goals during his eight-year spell in south-west London, culminating in scoring the equaliser and the winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League final. He had a brief spell in Shanghai before signing for Galatasaray in January 2013. Juventus are among other clubs to have registered their interest in Drogba.

Projecting Pots For Champions League Draw

May 19, 2014 12:07 PM

Liverpool will be in pot 3 for the Champions League group stage draw.

CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg qualified for the Champions League at the expense of Lokomotiv Moscow, which extinguished Liverpool's faint hopes of being elevated into the second pot for the draw on Aug. 29.

Manchester City recorded their highest UEFA coefficient score last season in reaching the Round of 16 in the Champions League before exiting to Barcelona. City will be in pot 2.

Liverpool and City will definitely be drawn against one of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Atletico Madrid or FC Porto, so will likely hope their opponents are Portuguese.
