Sam Allardyce Hired As Manager Of Crystal Palace

Dec 25, 2016 11:11 AM

Sam Allardyce has been hired as the new manager of Crystal Palace.

Allardyce spent 67 days as manager of England before he was fired.

Allardyce has agreed a contract through to 2019 worth around £2.5m-a-year, marginally less than he briefly earned with the national team, with bonuses applicable if he succeeds in steering the club to Premier League survival. Palace have lost eight of their last 10 games, and 22 over the course of the calendar year, to hover just a point and a place from the relegation zone.

The former Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Sunderland manager departed his position with the Football Association in September after only one match having been filmed discussing FA rules on third-party ownership by undercover reporters.

Crystal Palace Fires Alan Pardew

Dec 22, 2016 12:34 PM

Crystal Palace has fired Alan Pardew as manager after picking up just 26 points from their last 36 Premier League matches. Crystal Palace sits 17th in the Premier League.

A club statement on Thursday confirmed that the former Newcastle manager has been asked to step down from his post. “I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude for the tremendous service Alan has given us, both in his time here as manager and previously as a player,” said chairman Steve Parish.

“Following a fantastic second half of 2014-15, the 2015-16 season culminated in only narrowly missing out on winning the FA cup as well as securing our Premier League place for a record breaking fourth time. During his tenure Alan’s hard work and dedication were without question, he has improved so many areas of the club and we wish him the very best for the future. With games now coming thick and fast over the holiday period the club are hoping to put someone in place as quickly as possible but have nothing to say about a replacement at this time.”

Pardew signed a long-term extension in the summer after leading Palace to the FA Cup final in May.
