CONMEBOL Pulls Copa America From Argentina

May 31, 2021 12:07 AM

CONMEBOL pulled this summer's Copa America from Argentina due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Colombia was previously dropped as a co-host because of protests against President Ivan Duque.

The tournament is scheduled for June 13 through July 10.

CONMEBOL added that a new host would be announced "soon."

Copa America Postponed Until 2021

Mar 17, 2020 1:09 PM

CONMEBOL postponed this summer's Copa America until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is an extraordinary measure for an unexpected situation and responds to the fundamental need to avoid the exponential evolution of the virus," said CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez.

The tournament will now be rescheduled between June 11th and July 11th. The tournament will take place in Argentina and Colombia.

The decision comes on the heels of UEFA suspending the European Championship until 2021.

Colombia Leaves Falcao, Jackson Martinez Off Copa Roster

May 5, 2016 11:43 AM

Colombia is leaving Radamel Falcao off their 40-man roster for the Copa America.

Falcao has started just two matches for Chelsea since moving to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan from Monaco last summer.

Falcao currently has come on as a sub just once since suffering a "very serious" thigh injury in December.

Falcao missed the 2014 World Cup due to a torn ACL and he has never recaptured his form.

Jackson Martinez was also omitted from the squad, which has created speculation that he and Falcao could play for Colombia in the Olympics as two of the three over-23 canddiates.

James Has 'More Freedom' With Colombia Than Real Madrid

Nov 13, 2014 1:05 PM

Carlo Ancelotti recently gave praise to how James Rodríguez has adapted at Real Madrid.

"I'm happy because the fact he wants to talk about it means they are seeing that I am doing a good job, and that the work that I do is not done in vain," said James.

And about his position, he said: "I have to be open to everything. At Madrid I play a little bit further back. Here I can play more as a 'ten', more as a playmaker. I have more freedom.

"Everything has a big influence, being well, training myself well, to be at a good level. Everything, when it comes to playing, is important.
