Belgium was eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage following a 0-0 draw with Croatia.

"My situation is very clear. This is the end for me," Martinez told a news conference.

Roberto Martinez Considered Leading Candidate For Everton Job

Jan 17, 2022 10:32 AM

Roberto Martinez has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Rafael Benitez as manager of Everton.

Former Everton forward Wayne Rooney, now managing Championship club Derby County, is being linked with a return to Goodison, but sources have told ESPN that Martinez is the leading contender at this stage.

Martinez is currently manager of Belgium and wants to see the position through the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Assistant manager Duncan Ferguson is expected to take charge of Everton against Aston Villa next Saturday, enabling the club to spend time during the international break which follows to appoint an interim or permanent manager.

Eden Hazard Says He Will Never Be The Same After Ankle Injuries

Jun 21, 2021 1:37 AM

Eden Hazard accepted that his career wouldn't be the same due to the numerous amount of ankle injuries he's endured in recent seasons.

"I never doubted my qualities, but whether I would be 100% fit for the European Championship was going to be a question. I broke my ankle three times, it will never be the same as 10 years ago. But I know that when I am in shape, that I can prove myself on the field and that's what I'm working on now," said Hazard.

Hazard is set to start against Finland on Monday, though may not last 90 minutes.

Belgium have already qualified for the knockout round with two wins.

Hazard said that his goal was to be fit for the knockout games.

"I'm not 100% yet, but I'm ready to start. But that was the plan, to bring me along gradually. It's especially important to be completely fit in the knockout phase. Then I have to be in top shape."

Kevin De Bruyne Fractures Nose, Left Eye Socket

May 30, 2021 2:04 PM

Kevin De Bruyne suffered a fractured nose and an orbital fracture to his eye socket during the Champions League Final.

De Bruyne, who collided with Antonio Rudiger in the match, is questionable for the European Championship.

De Bruyne could return for Belgium wearing a protective mask.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez criticized Rudiger for the challenge.

“For me, it was excessive force and it was reckless. And it should have been a red card. Kevin is not a player that goes down for no reason. You can see the pain and it’s a swollen eye," said Martinez.

Eden Hazard Will Wait Until After World Cup On Chelsea Extension

Mar 27, 2018 11:05 AM

Eden Hazard is prioritizing Belgium's World Cup run over signing an extension with Chelsea.

Hazard is under contract until 2020 and does not expect a quick resolution to his future.

“Look, I’m going to finish the season first, then play the World Cup and then I’ll leave on holiday,” Hazard said. “We’ll see what happens next. I haven’t thought about it yet; I have another two years’ contract with Chelsea. I am very happy. I just think about the end of the season and the World Cup.”

There have been suggestions Hazard will wait to see if Real Madrid will prioritize signing him this summer before committing to Chelsea. Hazard may also wait to see if Chelsea secures a spot in the Champions League next season.
