Trezeguet scored 13 goals last season for Kasimpasa.

Aston Villa To Break Transfer Record With Wesley Moraes Signing

Jun 13, 2019 1:13 PM

Aston Villa are ready to break their transfer record in adding striker Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge for $27 million.

Moraes is Villa's third signing as they prepare to compete in the Premier League.

“The potential of the football club is massive. It feels right that Villa are in the Premier League, the history and the size of the club, the fanbase that it has, I believe it is a Premier League club and that's not me being a supporter. We've got two owners [Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens] who have got a lot of money, and are in it for the long haul," said manager Dean Smith.

Frank Lampard On Derby Comeback: We Deserve Our Moment

May 15, 2019 7:26 PM

Frank Lampard said he made a slight tactical adjustment as Derby County came back to beat Leeds United 4-2 to go to the final of the Championship playoff.

They will play Aston Villa in the final.

Derby were down 1-0 heading into the second leg.

"I said to the lads that everyone had written us off. We changed the system and made a little tweak. But we needed the lads to show bravery on the ball and they did. The goal before halftime gave the players belief and I am so delighted for Jack Marriott. I felt it was his night but I didn't know he'd do that. We have to enjoy the moment but now prepare for Aston Villa, but we'll be underdogs again."

The matchup pits Lampard against his former Chelsea teammate John Terry, an assistant manager with Villa.

Leeds Will Not Kick Ball Out For Injury, Says Bielsa

May 9, 2019 1:01 PM

Marcelo Bielsa said that Leeds will not kick the ball out of bounds in case of injury for their Championship semifinals matchup against Derby.

The response comes as a result of the controversy from their Aston Villa match in which they scored a goal with a Villa player injured.

"We have reached the common decision with the players, we decide to adapt 100% to the rules and we understand that if we have one player [down] we don’t have to put the ball out. We also think that if a player from the opposing team is down, we shouldn’t interrupt the play and put the ball out. We all know that the person that has to take this decision is the referee. Before the game we will tell the referee and the head coach of Derby and the captain of Derby that we will behave like that," said Bielsa.

Norwich Earn Automatic Premier League Promotion

Apr 27, 2019 8:48 PM

Norwich will join the Premier League next season after beating Blackburn 2-1 and earning an automatic bid.

“I don’t want to be too scared so I’m not thinking about Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp’s side. Today I’m just interested in celebrating. Even if the rest of the club wants to go to bed, I will celebrate on my own," said manager Daniel Farke.

They will win the Championship with a point against Aston Villa next weekend.

“It’s a little miracle that we could promoted under these circumstances, with financial pressure and these young lads. This achievement, in the style we achieved it, is really extraordinary. It’s a fantastic effort for this club that was in a really difficult situation. All the credit goes to our board. We had to earn so much money to keep this club running. They were brave enough to change their approach to reach their targets," added Farke.

Jack Grealish, Chris Smalling Attacked By Fans On Field

Mar 10, 2019 4:02 PM

Jack Grealish was punched by a Birmingham City supporter in the 9th minute of their derby match.

“Aston Villa Football Club is appalled by the disgraceful attack on Jack Grealish during today’s game. A red line has been crossed by this cowardly on-field assault on a player, which is unprecedented in English football. We trust the perpetrator will feel the full force of the law and the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding today’s deplorable incident," read the club's statement on the event.

Chris Smalling was pushed by a supporter later in the day during Manchester United's match with Arsenal.

The Professional Footballers' Association added that they've seen a rise in fan-related violence.

“The PFA is concerned that we’ve seen elements of this type of behaviour coming back into the game, with several high-profile crowd related issues this season. We must address issues of violence and racist chanting – this should include continued efforts with regards to education but be underpinned by strong punishments and sanctions.”

Terry captained Aston Villa last season and the club would like him to join their coaching staff.

Terry wrote on Instagram: “After 23 incredible years as a footballer, I have decided now is the right time to retire from playing. I have many people to thank. My wife Toni and my two children, Georgie and Summer, for being my rocks throughout my career – I couldn’t have done it without you, I love you with all my heart.

“I thank my parents, Sue and Ted, for the sacrifices they made for me as a boy, giving me the best opportunity to fulfil my dream and become a professional footballer. My brother, Paul, for his help and advice throughout my career – and all my family and friends for their great support.”
