Roma Players To Give Up Wages For Remainder Of Season

Apr 19, 2020 3:18 PM

Roma players agreed to forgo their wages for four months to help the club during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move will help pay the wages of non-playing staff affected by the current stoppage.

"The club's players, first-team coach Paulo Fonseca, and his staff, have volunteered to forgo four months' salary this season to help the club navigate the economic crisis that has engulfed the world of football since the coronavirus outbreak," released the club in a statement.

"The players, coach and his coaching staff have also agreed to collectively pay the difference to ensure that all Roma employees who were placed on the government's social safety net scheme will still receive their regular net salary."

Several other Serie A sides also agreed to cut player wages.

"We always talk about unity at Roma and in volunteering to cut their salaries for the rest of the season, the players, the coach, and his staff, have all proved that we really are in this together.

"[Club captain] Edin Dzeko, all the players and Paulo have demonstrated they understand what this club stands for and we also thank them all for their superb gesture towards the employees at this club," added club chief executive Guido Fienga.

Six Barcelona Directors Resign From Club

Apr 11, 2020 1:16 PM

Six Barcelona board members resigned from the club with immediate effect.

Vice presidents Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas, directors Silvio Elias, Maria Teixidor, Josep Pont, and secretary of the board Jordi Clasamiglia all handed in their resignation in protest of how the club was being run.

The board members wrote a public letter of resignation, documented below:

"We would like to communicate that the directors signed below have informed President Bartomeu of our decision to irrevocably resign our positions at the club.

"We have reached this point and see no way to reverse the ways business is managed at the club ahead of important challanges in the future and especially post-pandemic.

"We want to stress our disappoint over the unfortunate incident with social media accounts, known as ‘Barçagate’ in the press.

We ask that once the current audit is carried out by PwC we want to ensure the accountability will be handed to those it corresponds to.

Lastly, although it's the least important thing, we want to thank the directors and express our gratitude to our colleagues on the board who have dedicated their energy and strength to the good of Fútbol Club Barcelona. We would like to thank the executives and the employes of the club for your support and excellent work during this time. It has been our pleasure to serve out beloved Barça.

A big salute to all,

VISCA EL BARÇA

Emili Rousaud i Parés, Enric Tombas i Navarro, Maria Teixidor i Jufresa,

Silvio Elías i Marimón, Josep Pont i Amenós, Jordi Calsamiglia i Blancafort”
