May 23, 2021 8:16 PM

Lille beat Angers 2-1 on Sunday, winning Ligue 1 for the fifth time in club history.

Lille's title represents the first time PSG haven't won the league since 2017.

"It's a great performance. It's incredible," said manager Christophe Galtier after the match. "It was a long, tough day, we were under a lot of pressure and beating PSG on the last day is outstanding. The credit goes to the players. This team scored points against their title rivals. I can't forget that they beat PSG away after losing against Nimes at home.

Galtier is rumored to be leaving the club after this season.

Lille topped the table for 18 out of Ligue 1's 37 matchdays.

Pep Guardiola: 'It Was The Toughest Title I Have Won In My Career'

May 12, 2019 1:57 PM

Pep Guardiola said that guiding Manchester City to a Premier League title this season was the most difficult trophy of his career.

City defeated Liverpool by 1 point on the table.

“It was the toughest title I have won in my career by far. We have to say congratulations to Liverpool – and thank you so much, because they pushed us and made us increase our standard. To get 198 points in two seasons is incredible. To win the title we had to win 14 games in a row – we knew for the last three months that we couldn’t drop any points," said Guardiola.

The City manager added that he expects next season to be even more difficult.

“It will be tougher next season. But we’ll be stronger too. To win two in a row in this league, in this country, with all these incredible managers and players, when everybody invests so much money ... it’s because we have done really, really well. I’m sorry, but that’s the reality. I have the feeling next season that we’ll be back. We’ll try to be who we are now.”

Barcelona Clinch Second-Straight La Liga Title On Messi Goal

Apr 27, 2019 8:33 PM

Barcelona have clinched back-to-back La Liga titles following a goal from Messi to beat Levante 1-0.

"Messi was always ready to come on and I always knew he was going to play but we also have a game on Wednesday. He has to stay active and he scores goals everywhere he goes and he has won us this title. It is very difficult to win this title, without the amount of teams we are competing with, especially with this margin. We have done it two years in a row and it's fantastic to see the fans celebrate the title like this at home. Now we want to go and celebrate it," said Ernesto Valverde.

The title is Barcelona's 26th in team history, including 8 out of the last 11 leagues.

Pep Guardiola: Manchester City Will Have To Win Every Game For Title

Apr 14, 2019 2:31 PM

Pep Guardiola stated that Manchester City must win every match to retain their title following a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

“We’ll have to win every game if we want to make back-to-back titles, we know that and the players have shown they want to do it. No doubts. Why should I not trust them to continue [handling the nerves]? For a month in the Premier League we’ve known it’d be almost impossible … no, possible but very difficult, to win the title if we dropped points," said Guardiola.

Guardiola added that the side's personality will carry them through this tough stretch.

“This game was really good after the Champions League defeat because the stage was not easy,” said Guardiola, whose side’s winning run in the league started at the beginning of February. “We’ve played every three days [through] December, January and February but, even if we are not fresh, we have the personality for the games."
