Jun 15, 2021 1:21 PM

Christian Eriksen said he feels "fine -- under the circumstances" in his first message to fans since suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark's opening match of the Euro Championship.

Eriksen is still in hospital awaiting further tests as they seek to determine what caused his cardiac arrest. But in his first official communication since collapsing, Eriksen said: "Hello everyone, Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

"I'm fine -- under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel OK. Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark. Best, Christian."

Barcelona Close To Deal With Memphis Depay

Jun 15, 2021 8:23 AM

Memphis Depay is close to a deal with Barcelona as he's out of contract with Lyon.

Depay first agreed on personal terms with Barca last summer and a fee of around €25 million was set with Lyon, but the club were unable to accommodate him within their La Liga imposed wage cap.

Barcelona's deal for Depay this summer was dependent on Ronald Koeman remaining in charge of the club.

Lionel Messi Worried About Contracting COVID-19 During Copa America

Jun 14, 2021 8:12 AM

Lionel Messi revealed he worries about contracting COVID-19 as Copa America begins.

"It worries us because it is a risk for everyone catching COVID-19," he told reporters. "We try to be careful but it's not easy. These things happen."

"We'll try to do all we can so no one gets it but sometimes it doesn't depend solely on ourselves."

Messi is not believed to have been vaccinated, even though the South American Football Confederation said in April it had received vaccinations and aimed to give all international players shots before the Copa America kicked off.

Christian Eriksen Suffered Cardiac Arrest, 'Gone' Before Resuscitated

Jun 13, 2021 12:53 PM

Christian Eriksen was "gone" before he was resuscitated after suffering a cardiac arrest, the team's doctor, Morten Boesen, said in a news conference Sunday.

Eriksen is in stable condition after being taken to a hospital in Copenhagen after he collapsed on the pitch.

"He was gone, and we did cardiac resuscitation. It was a cardiac arrest," Boesen said. "How close were we [to losing Eriksen]? I don't know.

"We got him back after one defibrillator, so that's quite fast. I'm not a cardiologist, so the details I will leave to the experts at the hospital."

Eriksen had just played a short pass when he fell facedown onto the ground and was given urgent medical attention for around 10 minutes.

Georginio Wijnaldum Thought He'd Join Barcelona

Jun 13, 2021 8:33 AM

Georginio Wijnaldum has said he thought he was going to join Barcelona this summer after leaving Liverpool but the move never materialized and he instead joined Paris Saint-Germain.

"What I can say is that I made a different choice," Wijnaldum said in Saturday's press conference.

"It was a difficult choice. We negotiated with Barcelona for four weeks, but we have not come to an agreement. PSG was more decisive and faster. The project also really appealed to me. But it was difficult. I have to say that I also thought I would go to Barcelona. That was the only club that was really interested in me for a long time."
