Barcelona have confirmed Javier Mascherano will leave their club this January after seven-and-a-half season.

Mascherano's destination remains unknown.

Mascherano was bought by Barcelona from Liverpool for €24 million to provide competition for Sergio Busquets but he was converted into a center-back under Pep Guardiola to replace Carles Puyol.

Mascherano's place this season has been taken by Samuel Umtiti.
