Manchester City is close to a £5 million transfer deal with Juventus for Dani Alves.

City have been searching for defensive options after allowing Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy leave at the end of the season. City had been attempting to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur.

Alves joined Juve last summer on a free transfer from Barcelona.

Writing on the Players’ Tribune website in the buildup to the Champions League final earlier this month, Alves had high praise for Pep Guardiola, saying: “If you turn the word ‘computer’ backwards, it spells ‘Steve Jobs’. If you turn the word ‘football’ backwards, it spells ‘Pep’. He is a genius. I’ll say it again. A genius.”
