The New York Red Bulls have officially parted ways with their sporting director Ali Curtis.

Curtis had been absent from team activities for more than four weeks, which became a topic of mystery within the MLS.

Since his abrupt departure from the MLS Combine was reported on Jan. 12, Curtis had not been seen or heard from throughout a period of significant offseason activity.

The Red Bulls issued a short news release announcing his departure, blaming efforts “to work through differing views” for the delay in revealing it.

Curtis's decision to fire Mike Petke only months after he led the team to the playoffs angered supporters. But his decision to bring in Jesse Marsch and focus away from expensive foreign signings to homegrown talent paid off immediately.

A rift between Curtis and Marsch began to surface this offseason.
