The New York Red Bulls are not interested in signing Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Oliver Mintzlaff, the head of global soccer at New York Red Bulls, told Bild although the midfielder is a big talent he is not a player they anticipate signing.

Schweinsteiger's future is unclear with him not fitting in Jose Mourinho's plans with Manchester United.

"Schweinsteiger is a great player who has had an amazing career," Mintzlaff told Bild. "But there are no talks [over a move to New York Red Bulls]. He is not an issue for us and he will not become an issue."

MLS commissioner Don Garber has encouraged the speculation by saying that Schweinsteiger would be welcomed "with open arms."

"We know him from the 2014 World Cup, when he played against the USA," Garber said. "Plus he played an All-Star game here with Bayern. We are keeping a close eye on his situation."
