Robert Lewandowski was involved in a car accident four days before his team's Champions League quarterfinal second leg clash against Benfica on Wednesday.

Lewandowski started on the bench in that game, and only came on in the 84th minute in place of Thomas Mueller, but Bayern's sporting director Matthias Sammer insisted the Polish striker's car accident on Sunday, did not influence Guardiola's decision to give him a bench role.

"Accidents happen to a lot of people, but you only rarely see prominent footballers involved." Sammer told Sky. "He is doing alright. These kinds of things happen.

"It was a minor accident. These things happen, but it did not have any influence on [Pep] Guardiola's decision."
