Fabian Johnson has been sent home so that "he can rethink his approach about his team," Jurgen Klinsmann said on Monday.

Klinsmann was unhappy that Johnson removed himself in extra time of Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Mexico in the CONCACAF Cup.

Klinsmann replaced him with Brad Evans, but the coach said on Monday that Johnson was not injured.

"I had a very severe word with Fabian Johnson, and I sent him home today," Klinsmann said. "He can rethink his approach about his team."

Johnson, 27, plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany. He's the only U.S. player to feature in the UEFA Champions League this season.
