Mario Götze has said it felt "bitter" to be on the bench for Bayern Munich against his former club Borussia Dortmund.

Götze played just the final 11 minutes against his former side in Bayern's 1-0 win on April 4, with his recent form having come in for scrutiny.

"You can imagine how this situation felt," he said about being benched at Dortmund. "It was very bitter."

Regarding Götze's place in the starting XI, Pep Guardiola said in Sport Bild: "He needs to talk on the pitch at the right time.

"And not to journalists, not to his agent and not to the president or the coach."

Asked about Guardiola's comments, Gotze replied: "My only option is to convince on the pitch."
