Olivier Giroud was grateful for a "helping hand from destiny" after his goal gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead over Bayern Munich in their Champions League match.

Giroud scored in the 77th minute when he bundled in Santi Cazorla's free kick after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer failed to claim the delivery.

The ball appeared to come off Giroud's head then hand.

"I've had a bit more luck than in recent weeks, so I'm making the most of it," Giroud said in the Guardian. "For a striker, it always works in cycles and I know that. You can't start doubting yourself.

"All the qualities are there -- I just needed a helping hand from destiny, and tonight it worked out in my favour. It's certainly not my most beautiful goal but it's one of the most important."
