Pep Guardiola congratulated Lionel Messi for breaking Telmo Zarra's La Liga record for goals with 253.

"You have to congratulate Messi. What he has achieved is astounding," Guardiola said at a press conference.

"He has broken a record that everyone thought was unbreakable, a figure which was unreachable – and one which has stood for 60 years.

"It will take another 600 years before his record is broken."

Guardiola hopes Messi is able to resolve his situation at Barcelona.

"It would make me happy to see Messi finish his career at Barça, I say that from the heart."
