Ángel di María has told Real Madrid he wants to leave and has rejected the offer of a contract, Carlo Ancelotti has said.

Di María has been heavily linked with a move to England, with Manchester United reportedly willing to spend up to £100 million on the fee and wages needed to acquire the winger.

Ancelotti had given little away about Di María’s future but on Thursday confirmed that the 26-year-old has asked to leave.

“Di María asked to go in the summer and has rejected an offer from the club,” the manager said. “The player has to look for a solution. If when the market closes he’s still here, he will work with us like last season and there will be no problem.”
