Wayne Rooney was fired by Birmingham City in January, but he still has ambitions to manage either Manchester United or Everton within the "next 10 years."

"Managing Manchester United or Everton is the aim, these big jobs are where you want to get to," Rooney said on Match of the Day, where he was working as an analyst for United's FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest.

"But it's a process I have got to go through the steps and get myself back on track. I want to get myself back into management to make sure in the next 10 years I'm hopefully in a position to go into one of the big jobs."

Rooney's first management job came at Derby County, where he was head coach between January 2021 and June 2022. 

Rooney then took over D.C. United in July 2022 before going to Birmingham.

Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United have agreed to a loan deal involving Jadon Sancho.

Sancho left Dortmund for United 2 1/2 years ago.

United have accepted the framework of a six-month loan proposed by Dortmund, which will include a small fee and a contribution to Sancho's wages.

Sancho hasn't played for United since August after publicly disputing Erik ten Hag's reasons for dropping him from the squad for the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sept. 3.

Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United are in talks on a loan deal for Jadon Sancho. United wants Dortmund to pay the majority of Sancho's salary.

Sancho hasn't played for United since August following a public dispute with Erik ten Hag. 

Sancho left Dortmund for United in 2021. Sancho has also received interest from Juventus and RB Leipzig, but his preference is to return to Dortmund. 

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed to purchase a minority stake in Manchester United.

Ratcliffe has acquired a 25% stake in the club in a deal worth around £1.3 billion ($1.6 billion) and will also take responsibility for football operations at United.

A statement issued on Sunday said his further $300m commitment is "intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford."

"As a local boy and a lifelong supporter of the club, I am very pleased that we have been able to agree a deal with the Manchester United board that delegates us management responsibility of the football operations of the club," Ratcliffe said in the statement. "Whilst the commercial success of the club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times.

"We will bring the global knowledge, expertise and talent from the wider INEOS Sport group to help drive further improvement at the club, while also providing funds intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.

"We are here for the long term and recognise that a lot of challenges and hard work lie ahead, which we will approach with rigour, professionalism and passion. We are committed to working with everyone at the club -- the board, staff, players and fans -- to help drive the club forward.

"Our shared ambition is clear: we all want to see Manchester United back where we belong, at the very top of English, European and world football."

Manchester United will be open to January offers for Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek.

Casemiro and Varane may be of particular interest owing to their experience and highly successful careers but their high salaries and age complicate an exit.

Sancho is available because of a refusal to apologise to Ten Hag for questioning the manager’s explanation for leaving him out of the defeat at Arsenal in early September. 

Manchester United are refusing to meet with agents they believe are preparing to pitch their clients to replace Erik ten Hag as manager.

Despite a run of nine defeats in 18 games to start the new campaign, Ten Hag continues to have the confidence of key decision makers with United.

The representative of a well-known manager, who is out of work, had a scheduled meeting cancelled because of concerns the conversation would focus on the potential uncertainty surrounding the manager's job.

The staff of Manchester United are already concerned they may be unable to finish the season in the top-4 after they've had their fifth Premier League loss.

United is eight points back of a Champions League place. The club has failed to qualify for the Champions League four times in the past 10 years. 

United still have faith that Erik ten Hag can turn around the season. But there is some concern that the intensity of training sessions set up by Ten Hag and his staff are contributing to fatigue and injuries.

West Ham could make another bid for Harry Maguire of Manchester United in January.

Speaking earlier this week at St George's Park, Maguire said he did not turn down a move to London Stadium.

"The actual opportunity to go to West Ham, it wasn't agreed really between both clubs and myself," he said.

"It wasn't just my chance to say, 'Yes, I'm going.' It wasn't agreed between both clubs so the actual opportunity wasn't there because we didn't get far enough down the line with it."

David Moyes remains a firm admirer of Maguire.

Jadon Sancho's career with Manchester United could be running out as he has still not apologized for publicly claiming Erik ten Hag lied about the reasons he was dropped ahead of their 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Sept. 3.

Ten Hag has not completely closed the door on the possibility that Sancho could be reintegrated into the squad but there is acceptance around the club that an apology received now would not have the same impact as it would have previously. 

Sancho remains on an individual training program at United's Carrington training base and has little interaction with his senior teammates.

Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for $89 million.

Harry Kane said he is "glad" he chose Bayern Munich rather than a move to Manchester United.

Kane left Tottenham Hotspur in a $124 million transfer and will face United on Wednesday in the Champions League.

"Obviously over the summer I know there were some talks between a few clubs in the background, but Bayern was a team I was really interested by and really excited by so there weren't many other discussions," Kane told a news conference in Munich on Tuesday.

"Once they came in, it was between them and Tottenham to talk and the deal got done. My focus is on here, obviously Manchester United are a great club, a really big club as well but I decided to come here and I'm really happy I have."
